Table Skirting
Save on Table Designs with Do-It-Yourself Table Skirting
Table skirting is a great way of putting an added effect to your dining or buffet table. This hides all the table legs and produces a more dramatic effect to the entire table. Skirting tables are great when we are having special occasions or celebrations at home. Today, there are actually companies that make table skirts, but custom made table skirts can also be quite pricey. So for those of you who do not have the extra money to spend on these table designs, then you need not worry. There are now several articles over the internet that teaches you how to make your very own table skirts. This will save you dollars on table decorations and you can also have good fun while doing the project!
The very first thing you need to do for table skirting is get your table dimensions. You can do this by using a measuring tape. Measure the height of your table from the table top down to the floor and the table’s circumference. Make your measurements as accurate as possible because you wouldn’t want your skirt to be too short and expose some parts of the tables legs nor too long and have excess cloth draping on the floor. Also measure the table’s thickness for design purposes.
When cutting your cloth, add two inches for the hem. And in forming the circle of the fabric, you can fold the fabrics into four equal parts and put them in place with push pins. And make an accurate circle by using a string marker. After doing so, you can now cut the marked cloth to make a more or less accurate circle to cover your table top.
There are actually various designs for table skirting. The simplest design is the shirred table skirt. This design is made out of fabrics drawn together by threads to create a fuller body and a ruffled appearance for the skirt. Other designs include the box pleats, the knife pleats, the fringe and the swag. Apart from that, you can also play around with colours by using different colours for every layer of your cloth. This creates a more dramatic appearance for your table and can be used to incorporate into the general motif for the celebration. Another option you can make is to use plastic skirts – these is not a do-it-yourself project but can be a cheap option to cloth skirts, plus they are easy to clean.
Table skirting allows you to make use of old but still functional table pieces for special occasions and event. This way, you can hide the defects of the table using the draperies and even make beautiful and dramatic table designs out of the cloth. Now that you know this secret, you have no reason not to make that dinner even more special with added table decors and effects. So the next time you plan to host an occasion, make use of these do-it-yourself projects and impress your visitors right then and there!
